Kathleen Vyn has her M.A. in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University and two nonfiction children's books published by Julian Messner, a division of Simon & Schuster. Her book Haunted Iowa was published by Trails Books in 2008. It has been on the bestseller list in the Iowa category on for over twenty weeks.


 As a graduate student at SFSU, she studied with novelist Kay Boyle. She also worked with the poetry in the schools program. She was a contributor to Baby Names for the New Century published by Harper Collins, a bestseller on


She was awarded a finalist grant for prose (fiction) by the Illinois Arts Council in 2006.


Her short stories have been published in literary magazines such as Rhino, Lynx Eye, the New Press, and Writers of the Desert Sage. She has received fellowships from the Ragdale Foundation, the Ossabaw Island Foundation, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Edna St. Vincent Millay Foundation and the Wurlitzer Foundation.

Her articles have been published in Omni, Ranger Rick, American Health, American Fitness, Healthfile, the Chicago Tribune, the San Francisco Examiner, Silver Kris, Crain's Chicago Business, SAE Off-Highway Engineering, Colorado Homes & Lifestyles, Marketing News, Sales and Marketing News & Strategies, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Illinois Meetings & Events Magazine, and Office Solutions. Her articles also have appeared on Web Sites such as, and Vapor Trails.


She worked as a fitness instructor/trainer at the Robert Crown Center, Evanston, Illinois, the YMCA and corporate facilities.


She can write across many content areas such as travel, ecology,automotive, medicine, health/fitness, marketing, art and home design.


Her work has been cited in contemporary marketing textbooks as well as by Harvard Divinity School.

She taught writing as adjunct faculty at Columbia College, East-West University, Oakton Community College, and Chicago City College.
